最让周兴和刻骨铭心的是：有一次在小申妹妹家里吃饭，小申一家人十几口人聚集一起，他们鉴于周兴和两口儿的生存境况艰难，连基本的生活都没有保障，竭力劝告周兴和不要再想入非非，趁早放弃那遥不可及、没有经济效益的秸秆建材研究发明，改行干点其它事情。周兴和理解他们的苦心，但不赞同他们那种急功近利的想法，他轻言细语给他们解释道：“是的，我们目前是很困难。但，我认为这困难只是暂时的。我相信，如果我的项目一旦成功，上千万的钱我没想过，我的目标是以亿来计算。”

哦，这里有个细节还要向读者交代一下：不知是鬼使神差，还是种瓜得瓜，前面提到的南江县来“星河公司”逼债的那一帮人，周兴和欠了他们1000多块钱，他们却强行扣押开走了价值2万多元的小车。他们车上共坐了8个人，由于车况实在不好，回南江的路又不好走，车还没开到南江，就翻到了山崖下——他们实在是得不偿失有苦难言！车祸造成他们1人重伤，7人轻伤。由于对方人员受伤，整个车辆报废，此事也就不了了之了。
